Located to the north of Lake Mendota, Waunakee is just a 30 minute commute to downtown Madison. Due to the community's hilly position, a large number of homes here offer scenic views of the countryside, and even views of the State Capitol building. Waunakee offers a wide variety of parks for a city of its size. Community parks include Centennial, Hanover, Ripp, Savannah Village, Tierney, and Village parks. The festival scene is alive and well in Waunakee, where annual celebrations include “Waunafest” in the summer and “Wauktoberfest” in the fall.
The popular village school district includes schools at the elementary, intermediate, middle and high school levels. Arboretum, Heritage and Prairie elementary schools serve grades Kindergarten through grade 4; Waunakee Intermediate School serves grades 5 and 6; Waunakee Middle School serves grade 7 and 8; while the high school serves grades 9 through 12.
Choosing Real Estate in Waunakee
Waunakee is currently home to over 12,000 residents who live in a variety of established and newer neighborhoods. The Castle Crest, Castle Creek and Dormal Heights subdivisions feature homes for first-time buyers. Many of the houses in these neighborhoods were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Centennial Heights and Six Mile Creek offer houses built in the 1990s, with prices at slightly higher price points. Neighborhoods with new construction homes include North Ridge Estates, Meadowbrook and Savannah Village, where house prices start at $400,000. The Southbridge subdivision, a “Parade of Homes” neighborhood, features a nice selection of luxury homes, with prices extending to over $1,000,000. Buildable lots are also available in many neighborhoods, including a large inventory in a variety of subdivisions.
For buyers who prefer the simplicity of a condominium, many new units are available in Waunakee with a wide range of price categories. The Creekside condos are one affordable option. The Ashlawn condominiums offer spacious, free-standing units with tremendous capitol and countryside views. Prices at the Ashlawn condos start at higher price points.
