The Schenk-Atwood neighborhood is one of several bike-friendly and pedestrian-friendly locations on the near east side. No matter where you live in the area, you're never far from a bike route, park, or beach. The Capital City State Trail runs through the neighborhood, offering a convenient connecting point for a trip around Lake Monona or to the downtown area. The Olbrich Botanical Gardens, a treasured Madison outdoor destination, are accessible by both bike and foot. Schenk-Atwood also offers excellent access to two Lake Monona parks. Hudson Park offers a long stretch of beach along Lake Monona and is home to two ancient Native American effigy mounds. Just to the east is the very popular Olbrich Park, which offers over 66 acres of green space, athletic fields, playgrounds, and beach. This neighborhood also offers O.B. Sherry Park along Starkweather Creek, as well as the mini parks at Wirth Court and Elmside Circle.

SASY Neighborhood Association

The Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara (SASY) Neighborhood Association is one of several very active near east side community groups. SASY is comprised of many resident volunteers who work to maintain, improve, and celebrate the quality of life in the neighborhood. Annual celebrations include the Atwood Summerfest and the winter and summer solstice celebrations at Olbrich Park.
