The DeForest community is greatly influenced by the Yahara River and the natural areas that surround the village. The northern stretch of the Yahara offers some excellent opportunities for canoeing and kayaking. DeForest also offers its residents 87 acres of community and neighborhood parks, as well as over 300 acres of protected conservancy space. The Yahara River Trail System is another outdoor destination to be completed soon. When completed, the system will offer 18 miles of trail winding through the natural areas of the Village, as well as a connection to the Dane County and city of Madison trail systems. With miles of river and trails, acres of green space open for exploration, and numerous athletic fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas – there is no shortage of outdoor opportunities in DeForest. The Village even offers a fun “splash pad” for the little ones!

Annual Events in DeForest

DeForest hosts a number of annual events that bring together the residents of the Village. Community events include the Yahara Riverfest, the annual bike rodeo and hot dog walk, a Memorial Day Ceremony, and the Dragon Art Fair.

Area Schools

The DeForest Area School District serves the residents of DeForest and Windsor. The district also serves students in the small communities of Morrisonville, Vienna, Burke, Leeds, Bristol, and Hampden – in addition to a small section of Madison. In total the district offers 4 elementary schools, a middle school, and a High School.
