Unique Gifts and Fine Art this Weekend

If you're like many of us, you're probably thinking about your holiday shopping already, and preparing gift ideas for loved ones. This weekend, before the busy-ness of Thanksgiving takes over, Madison shoppers can head downtown and peruse a wide variety of beautiful and interesting artwork, available for purchase. Overture Center for the Arts and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA), are co-hosting the annual Holiday Art Fair. Shoppers can enter for a $6 fee ($5 if ordered in advance, children 12 and under are free). Artists from all over the nation will be showing their work, and selling items for gifting or personal enjoyment. More than 70 artists are included in this year's fair, and offer a broad selection of fine art. Booths will feature fabrics, jewelry, paintings, sculpture, photography, glass, ceramics, wood and much more.  MMoCA carefully selects artisans to participate in the event, and also offers a booth featuring Rediscovered Treasures and Art. Proceeds from this booth support the museum, and its mission to provide art exhibits and education at no cost to visitors.

Mary Pratt is this year's featured artist. Pratt comes from Lake Geneva, and is known for beautiful, nature-inspired ceramics. Her work includes detailed replications of plants and animals, and intricately sculpted designs. Her work is sold in stores and fairs nationwide, and will be available both at her booth, and in the silent auction.

In addition to the shopping opportunities, vendors will be on hand to provide refreshments, and live entertainment will complement the booths. Enjoy dance troupes, musicians and more as you wander through Overture Center for the Arts.

The Holiday Art Fair opens to the public on Friday at 2:30 p.m. It remains open until 7 p.m. It is open again from 10-5 on Saturday and 10-3 on Sunday.

Before you worry about the groceries, cooking and Thanksgiving plans, take time to enjoy some fine artwork in downtown Madison.
