Summer Frolic Celebrates 50 Years in Mount Horeb

It's been 50 years since Mount Horeb hosted its first Summer Frolic. And, even after all this time, some of the original volunteers are returning to make this year's event another big success.

"It is truly a special event that takes a village to put on, and each year it amazes me how dedicated our community is to coming together to handle all the details needed to make it happen," says Amy Mertz, a member of the Frolic Committee.

The annual Summer Frolic kicks off Thursday night at Grundahl Park. The event raises money for a variety of local charities, and it's designed to provide a fun, family atmosphere to connect with neighbors and friends.

To start the weekend, check out the carnival rides, a beer tent, and refreshment stands, all which open at 5 p.m. Youth baseball begins a weekend long tournament at 6 p.m. The park closes at 9 p.m. On Friday, the fun continues again at 5 p.m. with more carnival rides, more youth baseball tournament, BINGO and live music. Saturday, the day begins with the Norsk Run/Walk (there is a 2 mile and 5 mile course). Afterwards, enjoy more youth baseball, face painting, carnival rides, live music, and plenty of beer and food. Saturday evening brings a fireworks display, scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, the baseball tournament finishes and a parade is planned for Noon on Main Street. The carnival, refreshment stands and live music will continue until 8 p.m.

The Summer Frolic is a favorite tradition in Mount Horeb, and continues to bring the community together. Past years have raised funding for some significant projects, including an expansion to the Aquatic Center, the construction of Summer Frolic Sunrise Park, funding for a free concert series, and much more. This weekend, take a trip to Mount Horeb, enjoy the trolls, the downtown areas, and, of course, all the fun that Summer Frolic brings!
