It's that time of year again, when schools are out, weather is pleasant and outdoor spaces are open for public enjoyment. You don't have to go far to find quality entertainment. Madison is full of talented musicians, and their music can be heard all over the city. Whether you prefer to picnic on the Capitol lawn, dance on Monona Terrace's rooftop, or have your food prepared for you restaurant-style, there are endless options for live music in Madison.

Monona Terrace hosts "Concerts on the Rooftop" with beautiful views of Lake Monona. It's free to check out, and they have a long list of bands scheduled for the summer. Some weeks are coordinated with "Dane Dances" inviting participants to kick up their heels on the outdoor dance floor.  Most of their events are on Friday evenings, but the calendar also has some additional events planned for other evenings.

The Edgewater Hotel, located on the shore of Lake Mendota, offers a variety of music options throughout the week. Tuesday is "Piano on the Plaza" with a ragtime feel, "Thirsty Thursday" and "Fish Fry Fridays" also include live music from a variety of local and regional bands.

Olbrich Gardens has more than just beautiful foliage to offer this summer. Starting June 23, the gardens will host weekly musicians on Tuesday nights. This is the only time picnicking is allowed in the gardens, and the variety of musicians scheduled are sure to please all ages. Admission is free.

Concerts on the Square, featuring the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, begins on Wednesday, June 24. The concerts are in their 32nd year, and are held on the King Street corner of the Capitol Square. The performances begin at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket, and come early to get a close spot. Or, if you are a regular attender, consider purchasing a table, guaranteeing a close spot and caterer options.

On Sunday, June 21, Madison will celebrate "Make Music Madison," with more than 400 live concerts across the city. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the Summer Solstice with a buffet of music styles and genres. Information on the venues available can be found on their promotional site.

And, of course, there are countless restaurants and night clubs offering music of every genre, every day of the week. Choose your favorites and enjoy Madison's vibrant music scene.
