In addition to staging, there are 4 other low-cost, high-impact improvements that can dramatically increase your home's value and mass appeal. This 30 second video covers our top 4 home improvement tips.

12 Ways a Painter Can Help You Sell Your Home

Our #1 home improvement tip is to hire a professional painter to freshen up your home. Painting by a professional always pays for itself, usually many times over. Here are 12 ways a professional painter can add sparkle and value to your listing.

  1. Remove dated wallpaper and replace with a fresh coat of neutral paint. Kilim Beige from Sherwin Williams is a great all-around color for the purposes of selling a home.
  2. Replace bold colors with neutral colors that give your home more mass appeal.
  3. Touch-up walls with matching paint. A skilled painter can quickly and affordably make smudges and marks disappear and make your paint job look brand new again.
  4. Repair surface cracks and holes in drywall. Your painter can then "re-texturize" and re-paint to make surface imperfections disappear for good.
  5. Refresh wooden windows and window sills that have become moisture stained over time. Sand the affected areas, apply stain, and varnish for a fresh new look.
  6. Refresh nicked up wooden doors, cabinets, and trim. Touch-up with matching stain to make the wear and tear disappear from view.
  7. Touch up painted interior trim that has become nicked up over time.
  8. Paint dated, wooden cabinets to give your kitchen a fresh look.
  9. On the exterior, paint or stain the wooden deck that has become worn over time.
  10. Paint the front door to give your curb appeal some pop.
  11. For more pop, apply a fresh coat of paint to faded shutters.
  12. Last, for a little added sparkle, apply a fresh coat of paint to exterior trim.

Don't "Do it Yourself"

A bad "DIY" paint job will create negative first impressions and harm your listing. If your paint job is sloppy, buyers will assume you've cut corners in other areas of your home, like your plumbing and electrical.

Unless you're a skilled painter yourself, we recommend hiring a pro for all of your painting projects. A professional paint job always provides a great return on investment. Plus, you'll save yourself time and stress by hiring a pro. For best results, consult with our stager before selecting colors.
