Lake Edge Neighborhood Revival

Making your way around the Lake Edge neighborhood, you’ll find businesses adorned with beautiful murals, homes being renovated, and new businesses opening their doors. The community is close to everything on the east side of Madison, plus Lake Monona. Lake Edge is a community with a lot to offer for homeowners and visitors alike.

The Lake Edge neighborhood has a surprisingly natural feel for being located right within the city. Mature trees provide a peaceful canopy over the community, and large lots give homeowners room to spread out. Most of the homes in this community are ranch or bungalow style, built between 1940 and 1960. Mad City Dream Homes Realtor Ann Raschein lives in the neighborhood. “I love so much about the Lake Edge neighborhood! Our current home was our first home that we purchased 20 years ago. We have loved the home and neighborhood so much that our first home might be our forever home,” said Ann.

There are many new businesses in the community, which makes it a great place to live. “I can now walk to get coffee, lunch, take my dog to a grooming appointment, get in a workout, and go out for happy hour,” said Ann.

Many Local Eateries

There are a wide variety of restaurants in the Lake Edge neighborhood, including Crema Cafe, Lake Edge Seafood Company, Java Cat, and Monona Bakery & Cafe. Want to try some new cuisine? Viet Hoa Market is an asian supermarket in the neighborhood that has many products you can’t find at traditional grocery stores.

Pet Friendly Community

Lake Edge is quite pet friendly, with businesses ready to serve you and your furry family member. Tabby & Jack’s opened recently, and there are multiple veterinarians in the community. Visit Java Cat cafe’s drive-through or patio with your pooch and they will give your dog a treat.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

The community is part of the popular Lake Loop bike route, and there are plenty of businesses in the neighborhood that support a healthy lifestyle. Slow Roll Bicycle and Burn Boot Camp have recently opened in the neighborhood, plus the community is home to the Lussier Family East YMCA.

Appreciate and Support Local Artists

Everywhere you look in Lake Edge there is beautiful artwork in the form of murals. Many businesses have murals that showcase the work of local artists. The community is also home to Dane Arts Mural Arts, a non-profit that aims to beautify neighborhoods throughout Dane County by engaging youth and community members in a collaborative mural making process.

Close to Schools

Monona Grove High School is also located within the community, meaning students can easily walk to school.

Lake Edge Real Estate

From a real estate perspective, many homeowners are adding on to their homes. Some homeowners are building screened in porches or guest homes. “I believe that a silver lining of the pandemic is that many people are embracing home life and investing more in their community,” said Ann. One downside with the neighborhood is a lack of inventory for those looking to move in. “There are two homes in my neighborhood that were vacant for an extended period of time. They are behind the Monona Grove tennis courts. The space was being evaluated for possible expansion of the tennis courts. Over the last several months they were completely renovated. One home just hit the market and received an accepted offer in days! I am so pleased to see that these homes were preserved and will be an option for new homeowners,” said Ann.
