Our team believes that working by referral is a genuine and fruitful way to practice real estate. But what does working by referral mean?
- Letting your quality of service be your greatest marketing tool, instead of paid advertisements
- Focusing on building relationships instead of "finding clients"
- Having a spirit of generosity and incorporating discretionary effort into your daily work
- Removing the anxiety of real estate: when you do your job with skill, honesty, and kindness, you will always be led to the next person to help
If you'd like to learn more about how working by referral looks in day-to-day practice, Dan and Amanda would love to meet with you.

Renovation Virtual Staging
It can be hard to imagine what a home would look like post-renovation. When Chris had a client looking to sell their fixer-upper in Sun Prairie, we wanted to highlight the potential of the property and enlisted the help of Step Inside Media. Not only did Step Inside Media take high-quality listing photos, but edited them to show potential renovation results using currently trending colors and finishes. The results were stunning before and after photos (above) that helped buyers envision what some time and sweat equity could produce.
This is an example of how we customize our services based on each seller's situation. Behind the scenes, we collaborate with our trusted partners and brainstorm how to create the best possible advertisement for each home.
Meeting Offline
The internet has made real estate listings more accessible, high-tech, and glamorous. Seeing your home featured online is an exciting part of the selling process. However, there are many valuable face-to-face interactions you could benefit from well before advertising your home to buyers:
-
Meeting one-on-one for an in-depth conversation about your real estate goals and timeline.
-
A cosmetics consultation to update your home over the winter months in preparation for a spring sale.
-
A chat with your loved ones present who are involved in your selling decision and have questions, too.
-
Walking through the blank paperwork for extra time to digest the forms to be eventually completed.
-
Hands-on help staging your home
Am I in the right place?
Our office on Monroe Street is in Suite #1, the first office door you encounter when you walk inside the building. Due to this, we regularly have people in the community (e.g. interviewees for our neighbors' businesses, delivery drivers, vendors) peek their heads inside and ask:
"Am I in the right place?"
We're happy to help these visitors. And we often get a similar question in our line of work from new potential clients. If you're unsure where to start in the home buying or selling process, you can always contact us. We'll always point you in the right direction - whether that be a lender, contractor, financial advisor, etc. - to make sure you're in the right place to successfully reach your goals.
Ready to Help at Every Step
As real estate agents, we often get asked for our opinion or advice followed by (the polite caveat) ".. but I'm not ready to buy yet." However, at Mad City Dream Homes, our help is not predicated on you being ready to tour homes or sign an agreement. We are ready to help at every step of process, often months or years before our you intend on making a move.
If you are unsure about where to start the home-buying process, reach out. We're happy to help put you on the path to success, no matter your timeline.
Our Promise
Our promise to our clients is that we will never “set it and forget it” when helping you buy or sell. We will help you achieve the small, often unsung successes that make the entire process easier, more rewarding, and more fun. For example, we have recently:
-
Helped coordinate packing help for a seller, including assistance driving the U-Haul to her property.
-
Completed in-person tours for a buyer in town and virtual tours for their partner.
-
Cleaned floors in between showings when debris was tracked in.
-
Moved furniture between floors to help accommodate a seller’s upcoming estate sale.
-
Dropped off plants to ease a seller’s outdoor staging efforts.
We would love to give you the same level of personalized
…The Final Step
The last step in the homebuying process prior to closing is a final walkthrough. This is a time for the buyer and agent to tour the home one last time before the paperwork is signed. We look to make sure any negotiated repairs are completed and there are no unexpected issues or damages since we last saw the home.
For example, at a recent final walkthrough one of our clients discovered a hole in the wall from a couch being moved and an unexpected swing set left behind. Prior to closing, we were able to negotiate payment for the wall repair and a plan to have the swing set removed that worked for all parties. Our team at Mad City Dream Homes will advocate for you every step of the way through your transaction, and leave no loose ends.
Connections at work
The rise of workplace loneliness since the pandemic is making the news. Virtual meetings and over-scheduling are contributing to this feeling. It turns out that more frequent, unstructured interactions can help build a sense of purpose and belonging at work.
If you're looking for a new career in real estate that still incorporates this important face-to-face time, we'd love to hear from you. Our team prioritizes in-person team meetings where we often end up hanging out most of the day together while we work.
