The community of McFarland is situated just south of Madison along Highway 51. With a one-minute ride to the Beltline, McFarland offers easy access to any location within the capital city. Downtown Madison, the West Side, and the East Side of Madison are all just minutes away.

Area Parks

The Village has plenty to offer its residents, including over 300 acres of parks and green spaces. A wide variety of open spaces and waterfront settings makes McFarland a great choice for those who enjoy boating, canoeing, fishing, biking, picnicking, and hiking. Area parks include William McFarland Park, Legion Park, and a number of conservancy areas like Grandview Conservancy. Babcock County Park and the Capital Springs State Recreation Area are two popular outdoor venues located along opposite ends of Lake Waubesa. With its unique natural setting, “Bird City, Wisconsin” is the perfect nickname for this Village along the lake.

McFarland Schools

The McFarland School District offers a network of schools with a focus on specific grade levels. The Conrad Elvehjem Early Learning Center serves children from early childhood through kindergarten. McFarland Primary School serves grades 1 and 2, while Waubesa Intermediate School serves grades 3 through 5. Indian Mound Middle School serves grades 6 through 8, and McFarland High School serves 9 through 12.

Events and Activities

The McFarland Family Festival, held each fall, features a carnival and rides, a parade and triathlon, as well as food, music and many other entertainment venues for both the young and the young at heart. The Village also features a community pool, library, curling club, and indoor hockey facility. Yes, the wintertime brings plenty of ice to McFarland – both indoors and out!
