More about Madison's West Side

Many west side residents enjoy a short walk to the neighborhood schools, while west side homes tend to offer more square footage than the homes on the near west side and more affordability than the homes on the far west side. For these and many other reasons, real estate on this side of town is among the most popular in all of Dane County.

The west side offers residents Owen Conservation Park and Garner Park, two iconic gems from the Madison park system. Garner Park is host to the popular "Opera in the Park," where thousands flock each summer for an evening of picnicking and opera under the stars. Another popular outdoor venue is the Parkcrest Swim and Tennis Club, where many local residents gather on hot, summer days. John Muir Grade School, Jefferson Middle School, and Memorial High School are clustered together, making the west side one of the only locations in Madison where families can easily walk to all three public schools. Nearby shopping destinations include West Towne Mall, Westgate Mall, Hilldale Mall, and Greenway Station in Middleton.

Choosing Real Estate on Madison's West Side

Madison's west side offers prospective home buyers mature neighborhoods, where most homes range from 25 to 70 years of age. Homes in the Crestwood and Glen Oak Hills neighborhoods tend to run on the smaller side, with much of the inventory selling for below $200,000. The Highlands feature high end and luxury homes, which can sell for up to $1,000,000 and higher. Along the Lake Mendota shoreline are the Spring Harbor and Indian Hills neighborhoods, offering homes in a variety of price categories. John Muir Grade School and the Parkcrest Pool anchor the Faircrest and Parkwood Hills neighborhoods, making these two locations among the most popular on Madison's west side. Popular locations with newer construction include the Sauk Creek, Walnut Grove, Wexford Village, and the Woodland Hills neighborhoods. Many condo options are also available, with several dozen condominium communities located in this section of Madison.
