The snow today comes with perfect timing. The City of Madison Parks Department is hosting Snow Glow 2018 at Elver Park, from 1:30-8 p.m. Bundle up, bring all ages, and prepare for a fun afternoon of exploring all kinds of outdoor fun. The events are free, and some require registration. Check out their official site to learn more.

Beginning at 1:30, there will be a snow shoe workshop for eager explorers.  REI and Aldo Leopold Nature Center will be on hand to discuss the gear required, and a limited quantity of snow shoes will be available for visitors at no cost.

At 3:00, a learn to cross country ski workshop will begin. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own gear for this event, but some rentals are available in the warming shelter. Sit-skis are also an option to rent. The cross-country ski workshop is recommended for ages 13 and up.

From 4-5, animal lovers can spend time with master naturalist Paul Noelder, and learn how to track animals in the snow. Check out the different footprints you find, and see what you can identify!

From 5-6 Fit2Go and MSCR will provide a snow art event. They'll supply the molds, paint and other tools. Bring your creativity!  Also during this time, take advantage of Elver Park's huge sledding hill, and the glow necklaces provided by the parks department. Evening "glow sledding" is sure to be an entertaining time! Extra sleds will be available to use, provided by the parks department.

From 6-8, end the day with Groove and Glide, an ice-skating party complete with special lights, music and fun for all ages. Bring your own skates or rent some from the warming shelter.

The new layer of snow is perfect for the Snow Glow events. Take some time to enjoy the weather, and appreciate the Parks Department's work to make this event possible!
